Telex Displays New TD Series Microphones July 11, 1997
Telex® Communications, Inc., long considered the leader in
sophisticated microphone system technology, is displaying the new TD Series wired handheld
microphones at the NAMM Convention, held from July 11 to 13 in the Nashville Convention Center
and Arena, Booth 2028. The release of the TD-26, TD-22 and TD-16 represents a major
advancement by Telex into the live performance market.
"We at Telex have taken over 25 years of experience providing live sound and recording
microphones to venues ranging from concert halls to houses of worship, and packaged it in the new
TD Series Dynamic Microphones," says Gary Bosiacki, National Dealer Sales Manager/Sound
Reinforcement Products for Telex. "The goal was to develop a microphone group that met the
demanding and varied needs of live performances. The TD Series exceeds those needs by providing
superior performance with a familiar look and feel."
The TD-26 dynamic microphone is the top of the TD line offering a hyper-cardioid pickup pattern for
tight, close-up vocal situations. The extended frequency response of 30 to 19 kHz yields a smooth
response curve over the low frequency spectrum while delivering transparent performance in the
high frequency range. With a sensitivity rating of -71 dbv at 1 kHz, the 250 ohm TD-26 has a
tapered, ergonomic housing pleasing to the touch. This microphone is tailored specifically for the
professional vocalist looking for the next step in live vocal mic performance. The TD-26 has a weight
of only 9.5 oz and has no on/off switch.
For performers interested in classic styling coupled with a familiar sound, the TD-22 microphone is
designed to pull the vocal performance out and above the mix with a gentle rise in the mid-range
frequency spectrum. The cardioid pattern, dynamic TD-22 features a frequency response of 35 to
19 kHz, and is as comfortable in front of an aggressive instrument amplifier as in front of a gentle vocalist. The impedance rating for the TD-22 is 250 ohms with a sensitivity rating of -71 dbv. The
tapered housing design weighs in at only 9.3 oz and has no on/off switch.
The workhorse position of the TD Series goes to the TD-16 microphone. With a frequency response
of 45 to 17 kHz, the tapered low-end performance and the pronounced bump in the mid-range gets
a vocal noticed over the loudest of situations. A full 1/2 inch rubber shock mount protects the mic
element from the roughest abuse and the unit has an integral on/off switch. The TD-16 offers a
unidirectional pickup pattern, a sensitivity rating of -74 dbv with an impedance rating of 330 ohms. The entire package weights just 10 oz.
