Yamaha's Beech Custom Drum Series
July 11, 1997
Yamaha has made sound the priority once again with the Beech CustomTM drum series. It features a 100-percent beech wood shell, famous Yamaha Tour-style lugs, steel triple flange rims, YESSTM mounts and the famous Yamaha high gloss lacquer finish. Since the shell is comprised of only one wood, it reflects the pure, balanced tone of other high-end sets.
"Beech wood is sure to attract the ear of the music community," states Yamaha Drums product manager Steve Anzivino. "It has properties similar to both birch and maple, and projects a very centered, punchy tone. Artists such as Gerry Brown (Stevie Wonder), Sonny Emory (Earth, Wind and Fire), Peter Erskine and David Garibaldi are using Beech Custom sets as part of their sound."
The concept behind Beech Custom is to offer a quality, high-end set at a lower price than birch shell or maple shell sets. Yamaha has accomplished this and a whole lot more with this series. Beech Custom offers a new sound in drumming and a look rooted in tradition, yet totally
new. Solid finishes include: Pure White and Solid Black; transparent stains include: Blueberry, Red Apple, Lime Green and Pear Yellow. Five-piece sets with 800-series hardware are $2895 suggested retail price.
