Yamaha QY70 Hand-Held Sequencer
July 11, 1997
Yamaha Corporation of America, Audio, Guitar & Synthesizer Division, is introducing the QY70 Music Sequencer at Summer NAMM, a handheld XG music production studio. Replacing the GM (General MIDI) based QY22, the QY70 offers the enhanced capabilities of Yamaha's industry-accepted XG MIDI format in a very powerful and compact MIDI production studio, enabling composition on the go for the gigging musician.
The QY70 offers AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) tone generation, 519 XG format preset voices, 32-note polyphony, 24-way multitimbral voices, 16 song tracks, eight pattern tracks, three XG Level 1 programmable 24-bit effects processors, and full MIDI capabilities. The QY70 has a projected list price of $599.95 and will begin shipping in September.
"The QY70 is a full-blown XG handheld music production studio," remarks Avery Burdette, product manager, Digital Musical Instruments Department, Yamaha Corporation of America. "It's simply amazing how much power is in such a small package. The QY70 is not just an incredible upgrade-it's a phenomenal expansion to the QY concept."
The QY70 features a large LCD display, 128x64, which makes it easy to see all parameters as you compose, plus a built-in mini-keyboard for ease of programming and entering data into the onboard sequencer.
Connections include: MIDI IN/OUT, LINE/HEADPHONE OUT, TO HOST and DC IN. "The addition of the TO HOST port enables the QY70 to become a computer peripheral," adds Burdette, "making it a perfect companion to any laptop music system."
Other features of the QY70 include: 4MB Wave ROM; 20 drum kits; 26 chord types; 128 preset styles and 64 user styles (each with six selections); 2,000-plus preset phrases; 32,000-note capacity; 24-track 480 PPQ sequencer; and 25-300 BPM tempo mapping.
