DOD Launches SR Series Products at '98 Summer NAMM
July 10, 1998DOD is taking advantage of the Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, Tennessee to launch a number of new and improved SR Series products.
The new DOD SR606 Line Mixer/Distribution Amplifier is a deceptively simple sound reinforcement tool. Housed in a single 1U chassis, the SR606 offers six TRS balanced 1/4" inputs and six TRS balanced 1/4" outputs to provide numerous routing possibilities. The SR606 can be used to mix six inputs into a left/right stereo output, or as a six-by-six buffer amplifier. The products can also be used as a distribution amplifier, splitting a single input into six outputs or two inputs into three outputs. Each channel features its own rotary gain control, and a master volume knob is additionally available. An internal transformer eliminates the need for an annoying external power supply, while a steel barrier separates the transformer from the internal electronics to keep noise at an absolute minimum.
DOD's popular SR RTA Real Time Analyzer has recently been improved to feature an improved, "flat" pink-noise generator. Furthermore, LEDs for each of the 31 filters now light up in bargraph form from the base of the five-LED stack rather than simply display a single LED per band. Like its predecessor, the SR RTA continues to provide a highly cost-effective method of evaluating audio systems over the entire audible frequency spectrum (20 Hz to 20 kHz). A calibrated omni-directional condenser microphone with 40-foot cable and 53 to 107 dB range is provided.
The DOD SR823 and SR834 Stereo/Mono Crossovers have also undergone recent improvements. Active 24 dB/octave Butterworth crossover filters in a state-variable configuration assure a flat frequency response when the outputs are summed acoustically, and have the benefit of coherent phase response of adjacent outputs. Over-excursion of low frequency drivers in vented box enclosures is prevented by 15 Hz high-pass fourth-order Butterworth filters, which may be bypassed by internal DIP shunts if desired. Also, DOD has opted to switch to +/-1% components in the critical filter areas for extremely precise performance. Like the original SR823 and SR834, the two units continue to provide exacting frequency dividing for multi-amped speaker applications. Both models offer individual controls for two bands in stereo mode and three bands in mono mode, with a selectable low-frequency summed output available for a mono subwoofer connection in stereo applications.
