Martin Introduces Phosphor Bronze SP(R) Strings July 10, 1998 The Martin String Division today introduced a new Phosphor Bronze addition to their popular and innovative SP(R) string series. Martin's SP(R) strings were first introduced in January 1997 and are now standard original equipment on all new Martin guitars.
Martin SP(R) strings incorporate imported brass-plated steel core wire for increased resonance, brilliance and life. Now, for players who prefer the brightness of Phosphor Bronze, Martin has combined their proven core wire with Phosphor Bronze wrapping.
To create their exceptional SP(R) strings, Martin uses computers in a climate controlled environment to verify the high tensile strength of all core wires. The wrap is then carefully spun onto the core wire.
To create the new Phosphor Bronze SP(R) strings, Martin has taken their proven core wire and is wrapping the bottom four strings with Phosphor Bronze (92/8). Packaged in Martin's corrosive inhibiting envelopes, the Phosphor Bronze SP(R) strings are available in Light, Extra Light, Custom Light, Medium and 12-string.
