Zildjian Introduces New 18" and 22" K Custom Flat Top Rides July 10, 1998Legendary Cymbal Manufacturer the Avedis Zildjian Company has announced two exciting new additions to their popular K Custom range of cymbals - 18" and 22" Flat Top Rides.
The new Rides come as a response to numerous requests from dealers and top players to expand the size options for this particular cymbal, after last year's highly successful introduction of the 20" model. That cymbal was developed with the assistance of famous jazz drummers Danny Gottlieb, Steve Houghton, Ed Soph and Julio Barreto, who have all incorporated these various models into their respective setups.
"We realized very early on that the exclusive dry and dark sound of our K Custom range would make a unique Flat Top Ride sound," said Zildjian Product Specialist John King. "It has a beautiful, mellow, dry sound that is dark, warm and records superbly.
The new 22" model has been embraced by Danny Gottlieb, long famous for his eclectic cymbal sound and use of Flat Top Rides, since his ground-breaking work with the original Pat Metheny Group. Flat Top Cymbals, as their name suggests, are characterized by a unique profile which does not feature a bell in the middle of the cymbal. This lack of a bell significantly reduces overtone buildup, producing the tightest, most controlled stick sound of all Ride cymbals. Flat Top Rides are extremely popular for jazz, studio and smaller group playing situations. See the Zildjian website at http://www.zildjian.com.
