JBL Announces SR-X Series of Portable
Speakers
July 26, 1999
Building on its core strength as the provider of loudspeaker systems
and components to top concert artists, clubs and performers, JBL Professional
today showcased the high-performance JBL SR-X Series portable live sound
reinforcement loudspeakers at the 1999 Summer NAMM Show in the Nashville
Convention Center .
"The SR-X Series features a level of componentry normally associated
with installed or touring sound systems," says Gerry Tschetter, Director
of MI Marketing at JBL Professional. "With SR-X, JBL is providing
musicians, DJs institutions, AV professionals and clubs with a top quality
portable sound system without asking them to pay for installation features
they'll never use."
The SR-X Series is available in 11 configurations, incorporates the
same JBL technologies and quality relied upon by high-end tour sound system
operators, delivers JBL's trademark excellence in live sound and comes
in an affordable and portable package. The SR-X Series features a number
of new refinements over the original SR Series, which it replaces.
These improvements include:
- A new advanced network design;
- An entirely new appearance that features the ruggedness and road-worthiness
working performers demand;
- VGC(TM) (Vented Gap Cooling) low-frequency transducers control heat
build-up to increase power handling and decrease power compression,
providing more acoustic output for every watt of amplifier input;
- Pure titanium diaphragm compression drivers mounted to Optimized
Aperture(TM) horns;
- Non-resonant, full-length perforated metal grills provide protection
for the components and a rich yet unobtrusive appearance;
- 13 ply Russian birch enclosures finished in DuraFlex(TM) - JBL's
advanced synthetic coating that's actually many times harder than the
wood it covers;
- Newly designed and superbly voiced crossover networks
- Simple, positive switchover to bi-amplified operation.
And for applications requiring flying or suspension of the speaker system,
all SR-X models (except subwoofer and stage monitor models) will be offered
as SR-X/F versions. SR-X/F will include six "L-track" flying
points (two on top, two on the bottom and two safety/ pull-back points
on the rear.). These flying points will accommodate "fly clip"
fittings for portable use as well as forged 10 mm eyebolts for fixed installations.
"There will always be musicians and DJs who demand the best speaker
systems made," Tschetter adds. "For these discerning users,
the SR-X Series offers value and performance unavailable anywhere else
in a system that can withstand night after night on the road. The SR-X
Series extends the availability of JBL live sound excellence and performance
to the upper end of the MI road market."
The SR-X Series is a continuation of a tradition that extends back decades,
one which, based on a survey of box office results conducted by Amusement
Business Weekly, is illustrated by the fact that nine out of 10 of the
world's top touring artists rely on the same JBL components used in SR-X.
The SR-X Series will be available at select music and pro-audio retailers
beginning in April 1999. SR-X/F models will be available from June 1999.
