Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Series Drums

July 23, 1999

Innovation is nothing new at Yamaha Drums: Its flagship Recording Custom series-probably the most recorded drum in history-was the first professional birch drum set to hit the market. With the new Birch Custom Absolute series, Yamaha carries on that proud tradition while adding some new features and purchase options that will offer professional and semi-pro drummers the flexibility of a custom kit at an affordable price.

"The Birch Custom Absolute series combines the classic sound of Yamaha's birch shell with innovative hardware that allows for a very warm and open sound," Jerry Andreas, Drum marketing manager explains. "These drums are destined to make their mark in the drum industry."

All hardware, finish and lugs are identical to those of the "sister" series Maple Custom Absolute, allowing drums from each set to be combined into one formidable kit. Available high-gloss finishes include Plum Birch, Sea Blue Birch, Vintage, Silver Sparkle, Cherry Wood and Solid Black.

Main features include a 100 percent birch shell, 6-ply tom and snare drums, 7-ply bass drum, and 2.3mm triple-flanged Dynahoops on the toms and snares. Also included are chrome one-bolt design "Absolute-style" lug casings, which allow the drum to resonate more freely and deliver a more "open" sound. The toms are equipped with Remo Ambassador heads, while all bass drums come equipped with Remo Powerstroke3 heads. The bass drums boast five air holes for faster venting and a punchier attack. In addition, the 18" bass drum utilizes a floating system that elevates and supports the drum, allowing it to strike the center of the head.

"The Birch Custom Absolute will carry on the tradition of Yamaha's Recording Custom drum line," states David Jewell, Drum product manager. "The ability to combine the Birch Custom Absolute and the Maple Custom Absolute in one drum set lets you make your own custom kit without the custom kit price."
