Logic Audio Version 4.2 Announced
February 10, 2000
Emagic Announces Logic Audio Version 4.2 for Mac
and Windows 98 Emagic, the award winning European based software and hardware
developer, is proud to announce Version 4.2 of the Logic Audio Series
for both Mac and Windows 98. Significant additions include Sample Accurate
Sync, Roland VS Support, and further enhancements to the Score Editor,
Sequencer and Audio Engine. The features added to Version 4.2 are indicative
of Emagic's ongoing commitment to develop Logic Audio enhancements based
on customer feedback.
Emagic is proud to announce that version 4.2 of Logic Audio Gold and
Platinum will support ADAT 9-pin sync capable sound cards. This support
applies to those sound cards whose drivers are fully compatible with ASIO
2.0 (if such cards are also capable of sample accurate sync) as well as
to the ADAT sync compatible cards which are supported directly by Logic
(Sonorus STUD I/O and Korg 1212). Unlike standard SMPTE timecode, ADAT
timecode provides position information for every sample. The result is
that digital transfers can be made with perfect sample accuracy.Time Signature
and Key Change Editor
Version 4.2 of Logic Audio Gold and Platinum will include a new Time
Signature and Key Change Editor. The new editor behaves much like the
current Logic Audio Event List and allows for Cut, Copy, Paste and Delete
of any selected Time Signature or Key Change. All edits are automatically
reflected in the Bar Ruler of the edit windows and the Arrange. This new
editor can be found under the global 'Options' menu.TDM Plug-ins.
The cost-free Logic Audio Platinum 4.2 for Mac includes two of the most
sought-after Emagic proprietary plug-ins for use in Digidesign TDM-based
systems under Logic Audio: the Autofilter and the Tape Delay. This further
reinforces the value of the 4.0 update for Emagic's extensive TDM user
base.
The wide modulation possibilties of the dynamic controlable ADSR and
LFO made the Autofilter an indispensable tool for outstanding filter effects.
One of the strengths of the resonance-capable (up to self-oscillation)
lowpass filter is its bass response: thanks to the 'Fatness' control,
warm and deep basses are guaranteed even at high resonance settings. And
for those who like it more aggressive, just use the distortion circuits
before and after the filter.
Another NAMM premiere is the TDM-compatible Tape Delay. This always
syncs to Logic's tempo, is adjustable in note values with swing factor
and, with its tape saturation simulation, recreates the famous warm sound
of vintage tape-echo machines. Filters in the feedback loop allow for
astoundingly authentic dub echo effects.Other significant improvements
in Version 4.2
The Score Editor gains requested features such as cross-staff beaming
(Gold and Platinum). The number of possible Audio Instruments increases
from eight to sixteen. Furthermore the functionality of Audio Instruments
in the Arrange Window is now in line with that of standard MIDI tracks.
Added is the support of Digidesign's DAE 5.0 (required when using ProTools
hardware on newer G4 Macs). Hardware support is also improved on Windows:
EASI host support for Creamware's Pulsar and Scope hardware is now available,
as it is for Sonorus Stud I/O and EgoSYS WaMi Rack 24[TM] and Waveterminal
2496[TM]. Logic's audio engine is also optimized for increased recording
performance and, due to a special adaptation for the Pentium III®
processor, the amount of usable audio channels is increased. At the same
time the performance of the reverb plug-ins is improved when using the
AMD Athlon K7®.
