Korg Announces a New OS for its Interactive Music Workstations

February 5, 2000

Korg has announced new operating systems for each of its Interactive Music Workstations. The flagship i30 has a new 2.13 operating system that adds a number of user-requested features. These include: the ability to sort and search for songs and SMF files by name when stored on a floppy or internal hard drive, the use of the realtime mixer sliders during playback of an SMF file, ability to swap and then edit the ROM bank Arrangements and Styles, and the use of two switches and the optional EC-5 assignable pedal to modulate effects and more.

The iS40 and iS50 have a new 3.0 operating system, which allows the user to preview, or look up Arrangements and Programs before making a selection. This enables the user to prepare the next sound before it is actually needed--a feature that is helpful for live performance. Other additions include: the ability to recall an Arrangement while it is playing, undoing any edits or use of Keyboard Sets, various drum re-mapping options, compatibility with Arabic scales within a GS-format Standard MIDI File, memorizing the Master Transpose value for each Arrangement and Keyboard Set (for easier access to different tunings), 14 User scales, saving lyrics contained within an SMF, and a Manual Bass mode.

The i40M has a new 3.0 operating system that includes all the above features, plus the ability to automatically set up the Vocal/Guitar input settings using the A1 Keyboard Set.

The new iS35 and iS50B already ship with these new enhancements so there is no need to upgrade them. All of these operating systems are free of charge and can soon be downloaded from Korg USA's website or ordered on floppy disks.
