Roland Launches SRX-Series Wave Expansion Boards

February 4, 2000

Roland has releases new larger-capacity format for sound expansion—the SRX-Series wave expansion boards. Developed for use with Roland’s latest-generation XV-Series synthesizers and synth modules, these credit-card sized boards offer instant access to an amazing 64MB* of Roland’s best sounds each.

Focused intently on sound quality, these new expansion boards offer a level of realism unmatched by other expansion formats on the market today. With four times the wave data of Roland’s popular SR-JV80 Series boards available on single card, Roland has surpassed more limited formats on the market by two to eight times. Even better, once installed, users gain instant access to these new waveforms and Patches with zero loading time.

Two SRX-Series expansion boards are scheduled for initial release, including the SRX-01 Dynamic Drum Kits and SRX-02 Concert Piano boards, with more titles under development.

The SRX-01 Dynamic Drum Kits board was developed in cooperation with Spectrasonics® and is loaded with the finest acoustic drum sounds ever assembled. This high-quality board covers a variety of kits including rock, pop, and jazz—from Beatles-era to modern day sounds. Each of these vintage and modern drum sets was painstakingly sampled and edited by an international team of sound designers in world-class recording studios.

The SRX-02 Concert Piano board dedicates its entire wave memory to one purpose—reproducing the most exquisite stereo-sampled piano sound ever. In fact, all samples were taken from a single, extremely rare European piano to faithfully preserve its delicate sound. The resulting piano sound is, quite simply, the finest Roland has ever offered.

Roland has long been committed to sound expansion—its variety-focused SR-JV80-Series includes over 17 titles with more to follow—which presents strong evidence that the SRX-Series Wave Expansion Boards will soon become a new standard in professional sound libraries.
