Yamaha Announces Fiberglass Snares
February 7, 2000
Yamaha Drums will present three fiberglass snare drum
models at Winter NAMM 2000the FSD-1350, FSD-1455 and FSD-1465. With
shells constructed from a sturdy, patented 3.0mm Fiberglass Reinforced
Plastic (FRP), these snare drums produce a bright sound that will cut
through and be heard. All three models will be available in May, 2000.
"Yamaha has manufactured products utilizing FRP for years, and
has demonstrated that its not only durableits also very
musical," states Jerry Andreas, drum marketing manager, Yamaha Corporation
of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "This material has proven
itself in the percussion world with products like the Acoustelon marimbas,
xylophones and timpani. It has a brilliant, pleasing sound quality and
is an ideal choice for players who are looking for a very bright snare
drum to add to their kit."
Fiberglass is an extremely hard and reflective material that produces
a much brighter sound quality than steel or brass, making it the ideal
choice for drummers in the rock and pop genres. In concert, this lively
snare will not be "lost in the mix."
All models feature 2.3mm steel DynaHoops, hard carbon snares and chrome
Maple Custom-style lugs. Models are available in translucent black, translucent
red and translucent green finishes.
"These drums will cut through anything," adds David Jewell,
product manager, Yamaha Drums. "Im sure that our FRP models
will be seen on tour with many of the top bands."
