Yamaha Unveils New Line of Mini-Snares
February 7, 2000
Yamaha Drums will unveil three mini effect snare
drum models at Winter NAMM 2000. The SSD-1050 Sopranino, the SSD-1250
Soprano and the SSD-1350 Piccolo Stage Custom mini snare drums offer an
incredible value for the money, and will be available May, 2000.
"Yamaha has never offered mini effect snare drums at this price
point," states Jerry Andreas, drum marketing manager, Yamaha Corporation
of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "These snare drums are
a great addition for any drummer to add to their set. Modern music stylesDrum
n bass, Trance, Jungle and other electonica genres require higher
pitched snare drum sounds that cannot be produced acoustically with a
traditional-sized instrument. These models are perfect for that application."
All models feature 5" deep, 8-ply 7.3mm shells and 14-strand, high
carbon snares to produce the distinctive "crack." Shells are
constructed of Birch, Philippine Mahogany and Falkata plys and a choice
of eye-catching finishes: Raven Black, Cranberry Red, Marina Green, Chestnut
Stain and Sapphire Blue.
The 10" Sopranino and 12" Soprano models include a standard
Yamaha tom mount, which enables the drums to be affixed to a cymbal or
hi-hat stand.
"For a drummer in the market for an effects snare, these drums
are winners," says David Jewell, product manager, Yamaha Drums. "They
sound truly amazing. Tuned high, they can cut through any mix. Tuned low,
they have a funky, trashy sound."
