PRESS RELEASE

XM Series Power Amps From Yamaha

February 6, 2000

Yamaha announces the introduction of the XM series multi-channel power amplifiers at Winter NAMM 2000. Two new models–the XM4220 and the XM6150–are powerful, cost-effective choices for any installed or live application with a standard PA or distributed speaker system.

The XM4220 delivers four channels of 220-watt power (20 Hz to 20 kHz) into 4 ohms, and two bridged mono channels of 440 watts. The XM6150 offers six channels of 150-watt power at 4 ohms (20Hz to 20kHz), or three channels of 300 watts, bridged mono. Total Harmonic Distortion is < 0.2%. The XM4220 and XM6150 both have an MSRP of $899.95 and are now shipping.

"Anyone who needs multiple channels of clean, high-power amplification should definitely consider the XM series," notes John Schauer, pro audio product manager. "Small and mid-sized clubs, houses of worship, and performing musicians could all benefit from these products. Yamaha’s amplifier technology is now available for all types of users, for any application, and it’s very affordable."

The XM4220 and XM6150 are capable of driving both standard and 70.7-volt distributed speaker systems. Each channel can drive similar or different speaker types–such as multiple stage monitors or a multi-zone system–from the same amplifier, while retaining > 60dB signal separation between channels.

Despite their high power output and compact size (39lb.), the XM4220 and XM6150 are UL-rated, and maintain efficiency, low current draw, and reduced heat utilizing Yamaha’s EEEngine Technology.

All channels contain a 31-position input attenuator and high-pass filter for accurate system level matching and signal quality. In addition to the standard bridged mono selectors, XM series amplifiers feature a parallel input switch (CH A to ALL CH), which allows all channels to be driven by the single "A" input source. All controls are rear-mounted to prevent accidental changes.

Both units are 3RU designs and feature front-panel power controls and level indicators. Each channel contains both professional balanced XLR and Euro-block input connectors. Output connectors are 5-pole binding-post.
