New Third-Party TDM Plug-Ins January 18, 1996New plug-ins offered by third-party companies:
TC Electronic
TC Reverb Plug-In
TC Tools Reverb Plug-In utilizes reverb algorithms developed for the M5000 Mainframe Reverb. Six different room shapes are provided for maximum versatility. The "Hall" and "Fan" settings simulate early reflection patterns measured in the Boston Symphony Hall and the La Scala Concert Hall, respectively. There are over 30 Reverb Preset Programs created by top studio engineers, including Churches,
Halls, Stages, Clubs, and Plates. Maximum flexibility is provided by user-definable decay parameters for low, mid, and high frequencies, along with low and high frequency crossover adjustments, and adjustable filtering.
TC Chorus/Delay Plug-In
The TC Tools Chorus/Delay Plug-In provides chorus and flanging as well as user-definable delay effects. The chorus/ flanger provides the ultimate in psycho-acoustic effects utilizing the Haas effect, or the "Principal of First Arrival." The brain can pinpoint the origin of a sound based on the difference in time that the sound arrives at each ear. By manipulating these arrival times, the chorus/ flanger can widen and add "space" to the stereo image. There are ten Chorus, Flanging, and Slap Echo delay effects. A variable highcut filter, delay with programmable feedback, and LFO phase control are also provided.
Intelligent Devices
AD-l Pro Audio Analyzer
Intelligent Devices Inc. is now shipping the TDM version of it's ultimate real time analog/digital audio monitoring display system; the AD-1 Pro Audio Analyzer. Consisting of four real time modules; Supermeter, Spectral Display, Phase Scope, and Waveform Monitor, the primary purpose of the Pro Audio Analyzer is to provide precise simultaneous stereo peak and average metering, clip indication, headroom margin indication, L/R sum and difference ratios, real time spectral analysis, phase metering, and waveform history display; assuring a perfect final digital master or CD. The AD-1 replaces over $6000 worth of hardware, and provides simplicity, accuracy and functionality unavailable elsewhere at any cost. Applications include analog and digital DAW mixing, mastering, radio broadcast, diagnostics, calibration, and even education.
The new AD-1 TDM plug-in allows the user to break apart the various modules, allowing display of only the desired functions. This provides a choice of the full function display array, or sub-displays, thereby minimizing screen space used for metering. New data management routines produce a smooth, fast, real time display that is truly unprecedented in TDM plug-ins.
The AD-l's five 240 element meters will show every peak, even if only one sample. They feature stereo peak and average levels; with center sum or difference, floating peak bars, clip indicators, and remaining headroom displays. The spectrum analyzer is the world's only true stereo RTA. It uses two 1024 point Fourier engines, with a unique 74 dB digital peak log display. The phase scope shows actual stereo imaging depth and L/R discorrelation. Ten presets store 24 separate user adjustable parameters, such as meter display emulations, meter and spectral ballistics, and special audio output functions.
Stephen St.Croix heads the conceptual interface design team. "Mr. St.Croix has 27 years experience as a professional musician, engineer and producer, and has been designing and manufacturing popular signal processing equipment for 22 years-, says Intelligent Devices' head of development Edmund Pirali. "As a well known MIX magazine columnist, his exposure to the world's top recording engineers and producers revealed that they shared his strong desire for a better way to see what they've been missing. With our DSP design team's experience and knowledge, we are able to deliver all the impossible things he asks for, so it works out perfectly."
"The AD-1 is the first of our series of special purpose audio programs and real world tools", says Intelligent Devices president and graphics interface designer Stephen St.Croix." We need something that shows us exactly what our DAWs are producing. You can't guess anymore with digital audio."
The AD-1 now operates as a TDM plug-in, as a stand-alone application on AudioMedia II, Sound Tools II (Sound Accelerator), and non-TDM Pro Tools cards, and runs with no hardware on any Power PC Macintosh, using the on-board 16 bit I/O ports or the new third party digital I/O cards.
AnTares Systems
Spectral Shaping Tools(TM)
AnTares Systems (formerly Jupiter Systems) announces the release of SST, Spectral Shaping Tools(TM), a new software package for the Macintosh. SST is a digital signal processing tool that measures and calibrates the user's speakers and listening room. The user can then hear audio with corrections for the speaker/room using SST (digital/analog audio in or soundfiles), or using Sound Designer II(TM) or TDM(TM) Plug-Ins provided with the program.
Users can also control the frequency response of their audio systems to emulate virtually any listening environment. A number of target listening environments are provided with the program. The user can also design environments for instant recall during any session.
SST(TM) is compatible with Digidesign's AudioMedia II(TM), SoundTools II(TM) Session 8(TM), ProMaster 20(TM) and ProTools(TM)
SST will be available February 15, 1995. For additional information and pricing please contact AnTares Systems. at 800-446-2356 or 916-878-6666.
Waves
Waves today announced that version 2.0 of its acclaimed Apple Macintosh software DSP Plug-lns, Q10(TM) ParaGraphic Equalizer, the L1(TM) Ultramaximizer, the C1(TM) Compressor/Gate, and S1(TM) Stereo Imager are now available. Waves Plug-lns are software audio processors that seamlessly integrate with the user interface of audio recording and editing systems. Each application, when used with the appropriate shell can be used as a digital effects plug-in with Digidesign SDII(TM) and TDM(TM) audio editing systems.
Component assignment means that Waves version 2.0 Plug-lns can be separated into smaller components. As an example, a user can spread the EQ bands of the Q10 across their audio project, placing a few bands on each track. Other examples include a mono C1 compressor or L1 limiter for a vocal track, or a 3-band stereo EQ for the master output. This capability allows the v2.0 Plug-In processors to more efficiently use available processing power.
Version 2.0 additions to the Waves Q10 Paragraphic EQ include the addition of the new Setup Library (over 200 setups are offered). New types include Pre-Emphasis (CD, NAB, J17, etc.), Tilt (constant dB per octave), Plateau, and very steep Crossovers. The Q10 Setup Library v2.0 ranges from precision engineering curves to extreme effects processing.
