Marshall 100 Watt Valvestate Units

VS100R lx Combo
VS100RH head
January 18, 1996

Marshall Amplification introduces two new, professional level, triple channel 100 Watt amps to its popular Valvestate line, the VS100R lx 12 combo and the VS100RH head.

Marshall's revolutionary Valvestate technology accurately emulates the warmth, tone and performance of an all-tube amp. Constant research and development, coupled with reaction to market feedback has led to these new models' improved circuitry and features.

Both the VS100R and VS100RH boast the same exact controls, features and circuitry. The preamp section contains a 12AX7 tube which operates in all three channels-Clean, Overdrive1 and Overdrive 2. As well as having independent tone controls for Bass, Middle and Treble, the Clean channel has a Tone Shift switch which re-configures the channel's voicing, giving it a tighter low end. In addition to having a shimmering, glassy clean tone, when driven hard the Clean channel gets crunchy, making it perfect for semi-distorted chords and bluesy leads.

The two Overdrive channels, Overdrive 1 and Overdrive 2, have independent controls for Gain and Volume and share a three-band shaping network which controls for Bass, Middle and Treble. While Overdrive 1 has more than enough gain for even the most extreme forms of modern rock, Overdrive 2 has even more. In addition to its extra gain capabilities, the Overdrive 2 provides a wide spectrum of tonal options. This feature adds to the sonic flexibility afforded to the user by the three channels.

Both amps contain a natural sounding spring reverb unit with separate controls for Clean and Overdrive channels; a headphone jack for private practice, which automatically mutes the speakers when used; a parallel effects loop with front effects mix control and loop levels switch; a speaker emulated output for live and recording work and a revolutionary new power dimension switch, which according to head Marshall designer, Steve Grindrod, "gives the amp an even bigger and fuller, tube-like tone."

Switching between the units' three channels can be done via the front panel or with the supplied two-way footswitch which comes with LEDs to display channel status.

The VS100R combo houses a custom designed Marshall "Gold Back" speaker and also has an external speaker output on its back-panel. A 1x12 extension cabinet, the VS112, has been designed to complement this combo perfectly. This sturdy, closed back cabinet contains an 80 Watt, 8 Ohm Marshall "Gold Back" speaker.

A new 4x 12 cabinet, the VS412, has also been introduced to complement the VS100RH This 160 Watt, 8 Ohm mono cabinet can be used singly or combined to form a compact stack.

The suggested retail prices of the VS100R and VS100RH are $789.00 and $699.00 respectively. The suggested retail price of the VS112 is $369.00 while the VS412 is $649.00.
