Mark of the Unicorn MIDI Interfaces

January 18, 1996

Mark of the Unicorn, Inc. has announced two new affordable 32 channel MIDI interfaces: the Pocket Express and the PC-MIDI Flyer. Both the Pocket Express and PC-MIDI Flyer work with any Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 MIDI application. The Pocket Express also works with any Mac OS based MIDI program.

The Pocket Express is the world's first dual-platform MIDI interface for both Windows and Mac OS computers. It has two MIDI-ins and four MIDI-outs with activity LEDs. For Windows, the Pocket Express uses the parallel port, allowing operation with either desktop or laptop computers. For Mac OS, two serial ports are provided for dual 32-channel operation. A bypass button allows users to play their MIDI equipment even when the computer is turned off, and without having to manually reconnect cables. The Pocket Express includes full SMPTE tape synchronization capabilities in all formats with jam-sync for trouble-free synchronization. Front panel SMPTE controls allow convenient striping and lockup. Sturdy metal construction and complete cables round out the device's features.

The PC-MIDI Flyer is a remarkably affordable 2-in, 2-out interface for Windows. It connects to the parallel port for use with both desktop and portable systems and includes the bypass button for operation of MIDI instruments when the computer is turned off or disconnected. Its unique, wedge-shaped, metal case is both functional and fashionable. The device is powered from the computer so no additional power supply is required making it very suitable for portable MIDI rigs.
