Boss DB-88 Dr. Beat January 16, 1997
Setting a new standard in electronic metronomes, BOSS proudly introduces the DB-88 Dr. Beat. Based on an enhanced metronome design, the DB-88 gives musicians professional metronome features like dedicated tempo, beat and rhythm level memories, a "tap" tempo button, an audio voice count and user-controlled beat combinations for practicing in odd-time signatures.
Central to the DB-88 is its flexibility. The metronome offers the capability to combine two separate counting systems of 1-8 beats, allowing for practicing in time signatures of up to 15 beats per measure. Other features include: 35 - 250 BPM tempo control; independent slider-based control of note volume for accenting desired notes (quarter note, eighth note, sixteenth note, eighth-note triplet); and tempo, beat and rhythm level setting memorization via 8 user memories. These features are enhanced by two programmable audio clicks plus a human voice count (one, two, three ...), which let musicians pay close attention to the desired beat(s).
A "tap" function allows DB-88 users to finger tap the tempo of the song for quick setting, while a loop function plays back memorized beat settings in a user-defined order, making practice that much easier. A reference tone has even been included for instrument tuning.
The DB-88's advanced operation is intuitively controlled via five front-panel sliders, a host of dedicated buttons and a large alpha dial and built-in LCD. A high priority was placed on ease-of-use, so that users may quickly access the functions they need - storing and recalling tempo, beat and rhythm level settings with minimum effort.
Convenient screw threads let users mount the DB-88 onto drum hardware and stands with standard screws. An audio input jack and two output/headphone jacks allow for quiet practicing.
