DigiTech Vocalist Performer

January 16, 1997

The Vocalist Performer, DigiTech's latest addition to its "Vocalist" family of vocal harmony processors, is designed for the singer who desires natural-sounding harmonies, but doesn't want to be bogged down with MIDI and complicated electronic devices that seem too expensive, appear to waste time and detract from the user's creativity.

Smaller than seven inches square and weighing only one pound, the MIDI-free Vocalist Performer can provide up to two harmony vocals to accompany the singer's lead vocal, and offers three reverb presets for different room ambiences. Literally hundreds of harmony styles can be created from the processor's 50 factory presets, each of which offers six possible variations.

The simplicity of the DigiTech processor is stunning. Gone are the days of editing little screens and learning a complex user interface. Simply select the key of the song from the front-panel keyboard, the number of harmonies and their relation above, on or below the lead vocal, and the singer is ready to go. The mix of the generated harmonies can be adjusted via the machine's convenient front-panel mix controls. The Vocalist Performer is just as well-suited for live situations as it is for the home studio. An optional accessory can allow the processor to be mounted on a mic stand for easy "on stage" access, and DigiTech's optional FS-300 footswitch enables the user to control harmony bypass, A/B section switching, or reverb on/off with the touch of a toe.

A balanced XLR input on the rear panel accommodates just about any microphone, while an unbalanced 1/4-inch TS jack (-10 dBv) allows home studio enthusiasts to add perfect harmonies to their demos. Recording a lead vocal and two harmonies can effectively add two more tracks to a four-track recorder and eliminate the quality loss experienced by bouncing music down to one track to free up fresh tracks for vocals. Dual 1/4-inch outputs additionally allow for either stereo or mono operation.

Both performing and amateur musicians will appreciate the high-quality sound, affordable price and ease of use of the new DigiTech Vocalist Performer.
