Seer Systems Reality Software Synthesizer January 16, 1997
Seer Systems, Inc. today announced the debut
of Reality(TM), the world's first professional software synthesizer for Pentium® PCs. Reality, Seer's
third generation software synthesizer, is the result of Seer's development efforts since 1992. Seer's first and second generation synthesizers were developed for Intel and Creative Labs respectively.
Reality turns a Pentium PC into a professional synthesizer capable of synthesis and audio quality
previously unattainable. Musicians and multimedia professionals can create music using Reality
and any Windows. MIDI sequencer. Reality uses physical modeling, PCM, analog, FM and modal
types of synthesis and has onboard digital reverb and chorus effects. All synthesis methods
support polyphonic, multi-timbral performance at multiple sample rates. Reality produces S/PDIF
digital audio output and has a capture utility for simultaneous direct-to-disk digital recordings of
Reality's synthesis output and Windows .wav files. Reality supports one gigabyte of RAM making it
ideal for extensive sample playback and direct-to-disk digital recording.
Because of Reality's software-only approach, new features and synthesis methods can be easily
added, therefore never becoming obsolete. The computers on which Reality runs continue to get
faster and cheaper. Recognizing this trend, Seer has developed a scaleable product line offering
new levels of performance and convenience for the composer while creating an exciting new
distribution system for the consumer.
Through a license agreement between Seer and Stanford University, Seer incorporates Stanford's
Sondius® synthesis technology as an integral part of Reality's physical modeling/waveguide
techniques. Reality is developed by world-renowned synthesis designers Dave Smith (Sequential
Circuits) and Stanley Jungleib.
Reality will be sold directly to
end-users in North America and through international distributors outside of North America.
Seer Systems, Inc., located in Portola Valley, California, is the world's leading developer of
