PRESS RELEASE

Roland AF-70 Anti-Feedback DI

January 16, 1997

Roland is pleased to introduce a product aimed at keeping things quiet: the AF-70 Anti-Feedback DI box. The compact AF-70 provides professional-quality automatic feedback detection and elimination plus onboard limiting and enhancing capability without the need for complex settings or a cumbersome user interface.

The AF-70's automatic anti-feedback function instantly scans, detects and lowers offending frequencies to just below the feedback threshold by simply pressing the START button. To ensure professional results, AF-70's auto-filter is graduated in very fine increments, allowing feedback frequencies to be precisely detected and reduced, resulting in minimal tonal changes.

The AF-70 includes a variety of front-panel switches. Switch functions include: a Limiter, which prevents input overload; an Enhancer, which makes the signal clearer without increasing the volume; Low Cut / High Cut Filters, which assist in managing signal problems at both ends of the frequency range (such as "howling" at non-vocal high-frequencies and stage noise picked up from mic stands); a Diffuse control, which helps eliminate "ringing"; and a Dynamic function, which continuously monitors and eliminates any newly developing feedback.

Additionally, the AF-70's Filter Wide switch alters the bandwidth of the filter and is switchable between maximum feedback elimination (ON) and minimal tonal change (OFF). These dedicated signal processing switches can all be used separately or in combination.

The AF-70's inputs and outputs are multipurpose balanced XLR-type and balanced TRS (1/4-inch) connections. They include level switching (40dBm, -20dBm, 0dBm), which allows the AF-70 to be used in conjunction with any equipment, regardless of signal level requirements.

The AF-70's convenient back-panel features include: a Ground Lift switch to eliminate ground loop hums; a handy Polarity selector switch; and even a built-in phantom power supply switch for using the AF-70 as a microphone-dedicated DI box.

Comprehensive anti-feedback settings can be stored in memory for instant recall, improving ease-of-use dramatically.
