Roland JV-2080 Synth Module

January 16, 1997

Once again setting the standard for powerful, expandable synthesizer modules, Roland is proud to introduce the JV-2080 64-voice Synthesizer Module. Offering full 64-voice polyphony, eight expansion board slots, three independent EFX sets and a large user-friendly LCD interface, the JV-2080 is a powerful synth module in the tradition of Roland's highly successful JV-1080.

The JV-2080 is a two-unit rack-mount synthesizer module with amazing features. Like the JV-1080, the JV-2080 offers massive 64-voice polyphony and 16-part multitimbral capability bolstered by a powerful 32-bit RISC chip CPU. The JV-2080 contains a stellar 768 patches and can accommodate up to eight of Roland's popular SR-JV80 Series expansion boards simultaneously. These boards provide some of the most widely used professional synth sounds in the world, from amazing piano sounds to world music sounds to '60s and '70s keyboard sounds.

The JV-2080 boasts the ability to expand to 144MB of internal memory in 16-bit linear mode, which allows for the storage of approximately 2,900 patches (including the 768 internal patches). To assist in navigating through this arsenal of sound, the JV-2080 has also added a large 320 x 80 dot backlit graphic LCD, which makes sound editing fast and simple, as well as innovative Patch Finder and Phrase Preview functions:

The Patch Finder makes locating patches easy by grouping them into one of 38 categories (e.g. Electric Piano). This function can be used not only for the JV-2080's internal patches, but for user-installed expansion boards and memory data cards as well; no longer will finding a string sound mean endless scrolling.

Once a patch is selected, the Phrase Preview function allows users to hear it in a musical phrase with the push of a volume knob; no MIDI keyboard needed. In short, Phrase Preview triggers one of 38 different musical phrases, so that a patch may be heard the way it should be - in the context of music.

In addition to high-quality Roland reverb and chorus, the JV-2080 features three onboard EFX sets, tripling the effects processing power of the JV-1080. 40 insert effects are available per EFX set, including rotary, auto wah, time-controlled delay, two-voice pitch shifter and combination effects, not to mention acclaimed distortion and phase-shifting effects. Since these are accessible as insert effects, users can pick and choose which parts will be effected.

Along with traditional Stereo Mix outputs, the JV-2080 features two additional pairs of stereo outputs. These outputs are great for recording applications or individual external effects processing for selected parts.

The JV-2080 64-voice Synthesizer Module is compatible with Roland's JV-1080 Synthesizer Module, XP-50 and XP-80 Music Workstations and SR-JV80-Series Wave Expansion Boards.
