Engineered Percussion Introduces Vortex Snare Tripod
January 29, 1998The AXIS VST uses a low profile, replaceable "snare tripod basket" that remains attached to the drum at all times. The "basket" has 3 telescoping rods with cylindrical nylon "Finger Pads" that securely grip the bottom hoop. (Finger pads for Die-Cast and wood hoops are also available.) Additional baskets can be purchased to accommodate the drummers arsenal of snare drums. Because of the sleek design, the drum and basket assembly can fit into standard cases and bottom heads can be changed easily.
The drum and basket assembly has a quick disconnect hub that effortlessly drops onto the AXIS "Hemispherical clamp" - a remarkably simple, yet powerful steel ball-swivel top. This elegant design allows the drum to rotate into perfect placement without the worry of slippage. All these time saving features are combined with the revolutionary new "VORTEX" leg design to make a truly lightweight professional snare drum stand.
The new "Vortex" line of professional hardware is made for those drummers who are looking for a lightweight flexible solution for their setup and performance needs. All parts are machined of structural grade aircraft aluminum and steel for strength, stability and a great reduction in weight. Hi-quality grade '8' fasteners are stronger and more serviceable than current industry standard rivets.
The shape and design of the leg assembly is not just for looks. The "cyclone" or "vortex" shape has a key advantage over the typical hardware design that is being produced by most of today's drum manufacturers. As the normal load forces (i.e. impact shock during playing) are applied, the stand absorbs the shock by coiling or twisting about it's center axis. This "spring like" rotation gives the stand the appearance of twisting into the ground creating added stability as opposed to the bouncing that occurs with traditional rigid braced legs. The twin cylindrical rubber feet on the end of each leg otters an increase in the floor contact area of the legs and reduces creeping.
