Korg Introduces SG-Rack Stage Piano Module

January 29, 1998

Korg introduces the new Korg SG-Rack, the rack-mounted version of its recently launched SGproX Stage Piano/Controller. The 64-voice SG-Rack puts the huge, diverse sonic and effects array of the SGproX into a single rack space unit for easy transport and use.

Using Korg's AI2 (Advanced Integrated) Synthesis System, the SG-Rack offers some of the best sounding piano samples available, with an extensive 24-MB of memory containing three different digitally sampled piano waveforms. The SG-Rack employs Korg's sophisticated voicing technology to provide 12 high-quality piano sounds with great presence, including the natural ambience and rich resonance of the new stereo sampled piano sound.

In addition to a diverse assortment of acoustic piano sounds, the Korg SG-Rack holds a variety of other frequently used keyboard sounds, including electric piano, clavinet, organ, strings, synth pads and voices - a total of 64 on-board sound programs. In addition, these programs' parameters (including attack, delay, release, and effects settings, among others) are fully programmable and can be stored in internal memory for instant recall. In the SG-Rack's Performance mode, two timbres can be combined to create a split or layered combination for even more tonal possibilities, increasing the SG-Rack's number of sounds to 128.

The SG-Rack also contains two high-quality stereo digital multi-effects processors with pro-type reverbs, delays, choruses and more. The SG-Rack also incorporates the same Hyper Enhancer found on the SGproX keyboard, which further expands the ambience available for natural piano sounds. An A4 tone and MIDI reset message can be generated from the SG-Rack's front panel for ease of programming and system testing. The SG-Rack and the Korg SGproX are compatible with each other and can be used together, with program data transmitted between them via MIDI. The SG-Rack's large LCD display offers the same excellent visibility as the display on the SGproX, making them both great stage performers. At a little over six pounds in weight, the SG-Rack can go anywhere.

The Korg SG-Rack is available now and has a suggested list price of $899.00.
