Yamaha P200 Digital Piano January 29, 1998
Yamaha Corporation of America does it again! Demonstrating excellence as the industry leader in the acoustic and digital piano market, the product line is now even stronger, with the introduction of the P200 digital piano at Winter NAMM 1998. Building on the success of the P150, the P200 digital piano incorporates many of its great features, with new state-of-the-art advanced features all for the retail price of $2,395. The P200 is a shining example of Yamaha's continued commitment to success, and to delivering quality, cost-efficient products to its customers.
Destined to be the standard in the digital piano market, the P200's improved
64-note polyphony provides users with a natural piano-feel and enhanced layering of voices and sounds.
The 88-key Graded Hammer (GH) effect keyboard accurately simulates the acoustic phenomenon whereby the lower pitch keys are heavier to the touch and the higher pitch keys are lighter-the normal feeling of an acoustic piano.
"The P200 brings a greater heritage to the digital piano market due to the GH action. It goes the extra mile to give a greater feeling of a real acoustic piano," states Avery Burdette, product manager, Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio and Combo Division, Digital Musical Instruments Department.
This powerful and sophisticated MIDI controller transmission is enhanced with two independent MIDI channels. "The P200 improves implementation over previous models, by having the full range of all 16 MIDI channels available for both sides of the split, or both layers of the voices," says Burdette.
The 16MB wave memory of the P200 represents a two-fold increase of the memory capacity and polyphony of the P150. With increased polyphonic capacity, the P200 offers added richness and clarity to its 12 Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) instruments and dual and split voice modes.
A new cosmetic design for the P200 includes a new Panel Loc k mode that prevents inadvertent changing of voices during performance. Built-in features include adjustable reverb and modulation effects which offer the perfect monitoring for an ultimate acoustic ambiance, and 3-band equalizer that allows manipulation of output in low, medium and high ranges, providing greater control and flexibility in instrument voice and timbre control.
The P200 Performance mode provides assignable continuous slider (CS) and foot controller (FC), bank select program change, send and receive capabilities, MIDI transpose and merge functions for complete control over external multitimbral tone sources. The Performance mode provides the ability to edit and control up to 24 performances or voice configurations, at the touch of a button.
