Yamaha Corporation of America turns the spotlight on enhancements made to their widely-respected TRB professional bass series at this year's NAMM show. Each of the basses in the series has been redesigned to better meet the demands of players.
"We invited honest feedback from professional bass players and our top designers and decided some subtle, yet very significant changes in our TRB basses would make a big difference," said Jay Piccirillo, product specialist, Yamaha Corporation of America Pro Audio & Combo Division, Guitar Department. "Response to our longer scale length, to a cool selection of new translucent finishes, and especially to the improved tonality of our electronics and pickups, has been very gratifying." Even with all these new features, Piccirillo notes that pricing of the basses will not increase.
The longer 35" scale length-now featured on all 4, 5, or 6- basses-delivers more string tension, better note definition, a more pronounced low "B" string and more punch than ever before. Yamaha's upgraded humbucking pickups present a beefier, quieter sound than their single coil predecessors, and tonal versatility of electronics and pickups has broadened dramatically. The repositioning of pearl dot inlays to the top of the fretboard adds a touch of style and three striking new finishes-Translucent Blue, Translucent Magenta and Translucent Amber-will definitely turn heads.
The bodies are made from Ash, with Maple necks, Rosewood fingerboards, and solid Brass tuners and bridge. The old "Slap Cut" has been eliminated to smooth out the overall look of the instrument. Fretless and left-handed versions are offered for the five-string model (TRB5).
