Korg Introduces Their New i40M Interactive Accompaniment Module

January 28, 1999

Korg USA introduces the i40M - an accompaniment instrument designed for use in live performance or the studio. It combines a powerful AI2 synthesizer with sequencing and accompaniment features as well as many live performance functions. In addition, the i40M offers a vocal/guitar input with dedicated effects for each instrument type.

The i40M offer a wide selection of Styles and Arrangements covering all musical styles. Each Arrangement offers four Variations, two fills, two intros and two endings. Using the Backing Sequencer, the user can play along with one of the i40M's high quality Styles (pop, rock, jazz and ethnic) using the MIDI instrument of their choice, and the live performance will be recorded as a complete song. Counter melodies and other parts can then be recorded on eight additional tracks. The resulting Backing Sequence is editable and can later be converted to a Standard MIDI File for further editing on a computer, or printing out sheet music.

The i40M features direct-from-disk playback of SMFs, with a Jukebox function for pre-selecting a full set of songs for ease of operation in a live setting. The lyrics included in most of the SMF formats can be shown on the i40M's LCD display. SMFs can be fully edited using the i40M's 16-track sequencer, or the user can create their own music from scratch, with extensive editing capabilities.
