Minnetonka's M2X Transports 5.1 Surround Between IBM and Mac
January 28, 1999
Minnetonka Audio Software announces Minnetonka Master
Exchange (M2X). M2X is a new format that allows 5.1 Surround masters to be exchanged between
computers, even between IBM-compatibles and Macs.
The M2X writer converts a 5.1 Surround master to a format that can be placed on CD-ROM, DVD-ROM,
DVD-RAM, Jaz cartridge, or other media for transfer to another computer. In additon to the
master recordings, other information can be added, including title, author, and comments or notes for
each recording. For multiple recordings, the playback order can be specified.
The M2X writer permits a second copy of any of the recordings to be put on the disk as a stereo mix.
On the receiving end, an M2X player program will allow playback of any M2X master. The M2X player program is free of charge, and can be downloaded from Minnetonka's web site, or it can even
be included on the disk with M2X master recordings. In addition to playback, the M2X player will display title, author, comments/notes, and play order.
The M2X system allows for selective bit-rate-reduction or sample-rate-reduction where necessary to
fit the recorded material onto the available disk space. The M2X player automatically re-samples the audio
data for playback.
The M2X writer is $99 retail list. Expected ship date is April 1999.
