New Hand Hammered Manhattan Models
January 28, 1999Celebrating
the success of its 20" and 22" Manhattan Ride, which SABIAN Ltd. has
designated its Cymbal of the Year, the Canada-based company has introduced two
new Manhattan models: the 18" Ride and the 16" Bridge Ride. The warm,
full-toned, retro sounds of these Cymbals are very evident in these new models,
but the soft 'tah' stick sound of the larger sizes takes on a different balance
of tone and definition, resulting in two highly versatile and creative models
for players of all styles.
Responding as a tighter version of the larger Manhattan models, the 18"
Ride offers increased sticking speed, a faster response rate, less spread and
reduced sustain, for greater definition and a sound that is cushioned by the
darkness and musical warmth of traditional Hand Hammered tone. At 16",
the mediumthin Bridge Ride literally bridges the role of crash and ride, with
punchy crash capability and a ride response that is full of tone and is pushy
without being overpowering. More than a crashlride, the Bridge Ride offers a
wide variety of punchy dynamic possibilities for music ranging from Jazz and
Rock, to Funk and Folk.
Commented SABIAN Cymbal Specialist Mark Love: "The Manhattan Rides appeal
to everyone... from rockers in search of the big sounding cymbals of the 60's
and 70's, to jazz players looking for the semiraw tones they heard on those
old Blue Note recordings. Because SABIAN is making those types of sounds with
the Manhattans, we've experienced an incredible amount of interest in these
and other models in our Hand Hammered series."
