January 28, 1999Sony Electronics today announced the launch of new Freedom(TM) Wireless series
components: the WRT-808A Plug-On Transmitter which converts any wired microphone
to a wireless microphone; and the WRR-805A Camera-Mount Receiver. In addition,
Sony is also offering the WaveHawk(TM) portable RF scanner.
"These additions to Sony's Freedom Series wireless offerings demonstrates
our ongoing commitment to wireless technology at an affordable price for the
independent professional," said Paul Foschino, marketing manager of professional
audio products for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company.
WRT-808A Plug-On Transmitter
The affordable WRT-808A accepts any standard low Z mic (non-phantom) or
line level source and transforms it into a wireless mic. The unit has 10mW/50mW
switchable RF output, four hours of battery life (with 2 "AA" alkaline
batteries), is light weight and features 94 channels UHF synthesized tuning.
The battery voltage is DC regulated to assume consistent performance for the
life of the battery.
WRR-805A Camera-Mount Receiver
The WRR-805A is a small and light weight camera mount receiver that is targeted
to the wedding and corporate videographer. It features a headphone monitor,
is mountable on every Sony camcorder and offers four hours of operation (with
two "AA" alkaline batteries).
WaveHawk RF Scanner
Introduced in the summer of 1998, the Sony WaveHawk portable RF scanner, (ICF-SC1PC)
provides audio professionals working with wireless systems the ability to detect
RF signals in a specific area before configuring a wireless system for a project.
The WaveHawk receiver scans preset bands (fire, police, AM\FM, TV EMS, weather,
etc) allowing programmed scan ranges (from 25MHtz to 1.3 GHtz) to focus on a
desired area. It stores up to 300 user frequencies and up to 20 scan ranges,
which can be saved internally or to a PC for reloading. It includes a CD-ROM
with PC control and archiving software, plus a comprehensive frequency database
for checking RF activity anywhere in the U.S.
"The WaveHawk receiver is a cost-effective and efficient way of setting
up a channel plan for a wireless system," Foschino said. "It helps
provide a clear picture of other RF activities in the user location enabling
proper frequency selection and channel planning."
The WRT-808A is scheduled to be available in March at a suggested list price
TBD. The WRR-805A is scheduled to be available in April at a suggested list
