VST Drum Sessions - REX comes of ageMulti Channel Drum Tracks - Played Live - as REX Files - Ready for Songconstruction January 28, 1999 Steinberg is very happy to present a completely new
type of audio content for intuitive and versatile song construction. Thanks
to the latest Steinberg and Propellerhead Technology, it is now possible to
offer the user a wide range of tight and groovy drummers, recorded live, thoroughly
produced and processed on multiple channels for Cubase VST. It is even possible
to change the tempo on the fly. This is a dream come true!
The VST DrumSessions is a series of CD-ROMS containing exclusively live played
drum sessions from real drummers, recorded and edited in Cubase VST using high
quality Multi I/O hardware. The drums are placed on independent tracks, as you
know it: Kick Drum on channel 1, Snare on channel 2, Hats on Channel 3, Toms
on ... you get the idea!
Next the banisch silence function has been applied to all the tracks. This leaves
only audio segments with an actual level on the tracks. The tracks have then
been processed with ReCycle and saved as REX-Files. The REX-File Format means
that you can load a complete drum session into Cubase VST and cut, copy and
paste parts of it into your own new arrangement, but that's not all. You can
even change the tempo, using Cubase VST's mastertrack function between breathtaking
70 BPM and 170 BPM (!).
How can this work?
This is possible because of ReCycle Technology. ReCycle prepares drum loops
for use in samplers by analysing and slicing them. It then creates the necessary
audio elements and transfers them to the sampler and at the same time saves
the reuqired MIDI sequencer data to disk. The effect of this is that the loop
becomes tempo independent, that you can edit its components freely to "rebuild"
the loop, and that the timing information in the recording (the musician's "groove"
and "feel") can be applied to other (sequenced) elements of the music.
Version 1.6 ReCycle introduced the highly acclaimed REX format, which expands
the use of the program to Audio Tracks in Cubase VST. With REX files, VST users
can take advantage of ReCycle, without owning a sampler. More and more content
manufacturers will support the REX file format in the future.
The VST DrumSessions is the most advanced use of these possibilities. You have
to hear it to belive it. And then you never ever will go for anything else.
The VST DrumSessions will be available in Q2 1999, distributed by Steinberg. For more information, visit Steinberg at http://www.steinberg.net/ |
