Yamaha RBX6JM John Myung Signature Bass
January 28, 1999Innovative bassist John Myung has spent his career pushing his instrument past
its traditional limits. Yamaha has tapped into the pioneering spirit of the band
Dream Theater with the introduction of the uniquely designed RBX6JM John Myung
Signature Bass at Winter NAMM.
"John Myung is a great artist and Yamaha is pleased to be associated with him
in the development of this Signature Series bass," asserts David Bergstrom, director
of marketing, Combo Group. "The specs are functional and beautiful. Most importantly,
the bass is priced to be accessible by a majority of bass players."
As befitting a versatile stage and studio performer of Myung's stature, the
RBX6JM uses only the finest materials to achieve exquisite looks and explosive
sound. With two stunning finishes available (Ruby Red and Turquoise Blue), the
RBX6JM offers all the visual elegance you'd expect from a world-class professional
instrument. The Alder body is capped with a Figured Maple top, and that combination
of fine tone woods contributes to the bass's impressive tonal versatility.
The 35-in. scale Maple neck, with 24-fret Ebony fingerboard, boast both the
comfort of narrower string spacing and the creative freedom of access to a full
four octaves. The neck's spectacular Abalone and Mother of Pearl Infinity logo
inlays, along with the Gold hardware and Maple veneer headstock (which matches
the finish of the body), help the RBX6JM stand out on even the biggest stages.
Tonally, the RBX6JM can deliver the "low-down" on stage and in the studio,
thanks to a powerful electronic arsenal. A pair of Alnico Humbucking pickups capture
the RBX6JM's extended harmonic range, while the full-featured active preamp-which
includes Master Volume, Panpot, and 3-band boost/cut EQ (Low, Midrange and High)-allows
the RBX6JM to deliver the perfect tone for any situation, whether feeding an amp
or running direct to a mixing console.
"The new John Myung Signature Bass is simply stunning!," states Gary Cook,
product manager, Yamaha Guitars. "In addition to the exceptional look and feel,
the RBX6JM produces a deep, rich sound that resonates from its Alder, Maple and
Ebony woods, Dual Alnico Humbucking Pickups and Yamaha Active Pre-Amp System.
Bass players will appreciate its new 35-in. neck scale with narrower string spacing
and ebony fingerboard. The RBX6JM is a world-class instrument with a down-to-earth
price!" For more information, visit
