Yamaha Introduces XS Series Power Amps
January 28, 1999Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, announces the introduction
of the low-cost XS series power amplifiers at Winter NAMM. Optimized to deliver
recognized Yamaha quality at an aggressive price, the XS series includes two models-the
XS250 and XS350-which are ideal for bands and low-budget installations.
The XS250 offers 250 watts per channel (20Hz to 20kHz) at 4 Ohms (500W at 8
Ohms, bridged mono). The larger XS350 delivers 350 watts per channel (20Hz to
20kHz) at 4 Ohms (700W at 8 Ohms, bridged mono). THD is 0.1% at rated power. The
XS250 and XS350 will begin shipping in March, 1999.
"We've put a lot of user-requested features together into an amplifier the
working musician can afford," states John Schauer, product manager, Pro Audio
Group. "In addition, the pricing is very attractive when compared with other amplifiers
in this market."
The two XS series amplifier models are Class AB design, 3RU tall and feature
XLR and barrier strips on the inputs and barrier strips and 5-way binding posts
on the outputs. The amplifiers feature built-in filtering, allowing the user to
select either high or low pass. This makes the need of a separate crossover unnecessary
when biamping. The XS series both have mode switching for use in stereo, parallel,
and bridged mono configurations. The XS series have the attenuators as well as
all the filtering controls at the rear of the amplifier, so that settings won't
be easily re-adjusted. For more information, visit Yamaha's web site at www.yamaha.com
