August 8, 2001In cooperation with Smartconnect, Yamaha Guitars will sponsor an online, interactive clinic hosted by noted guitarist and
educator Vinny Valentino and bassist Jeff Andrews.
The 90-minute clinic will feature Real Player live streaming
web audio and video from Valentino's home studio in
Teaneck, NJ--complete with a moderated chat
room--Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at 7:30pm ET, 4:30pm
PT. During the clinic, participants will be able to chat and
ask questions via ICQ (number 125074628) or AOL Instant
Messager (at MusicClinics). The public is invited to email
Vinny at onlineclinics@vinny.com prior to the event with
questions or topics to be covered during the clinic. Complete
details of the event may be found at www.vinny.com.
"This concept is a great way to educate people on music and
instruments, and is really the first of its kind for Yamaha,"
notes Valentino. "We've structured it very much like a clinic
that people would see in a music store, with a performance
and Q&A session. With the Web, you can reach a ton of
people and give them a real immediacy--instant examples."
The webcast will include information on scales, chord
changes, lines and performance issues, with Valentino and
Andrews playing solo and as a duet. Future installments will
feature trios and quartets. Valentino will play a vintage
Yamaha Pacifica and APX10, plus CPX15W and AEX1500
guitars, with Andrews playing a Yamaha TRBII electric bass;
both will be using the recently-introduced DG Stomp box
for effects.
"This webcast adds
a whole new
dimension to music
education and
performance clinics," states David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo
Group, Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division. "It's an interesting concept.
With so many musicians using the Web today, we're confident that this will
be a successful venture."
Valentino has shared the stage and the recording studio with a variety of
artists, including Tom Scott, George Benson, Patrice Rushen and Jimmy
McGriff, and has appeared as a both guest and guest host on BET
Network's "Bet on Jazz." He and his band have opened for Ramsey Lewis,
Spyro Gyra, Steve Morse and David Crosby, and continue to play concerts
and festivals around the world.
Andrews has performed and toured extensively with Michael Brecker, Mike
Stern, Vital Information, Branford Marsalis and the Wayne Shorter Quintet.
In addition, he has served on the faculties of the Bass Collective, Mannes
College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music's jazz program.
