Upcoming Museum Events Include Ted McCarty TributeTribute to take place at end of September, with October featuring visits from George Fullerton, Gary, Kahler, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, and others September 11, 2003
The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad will host a special tribute
to honor the life and accomplishments of guitar innovator, Ted McCarty, on
Saturday, September 27th at 3:30 PM.
As President of Gibson Guitars from 1948-1966, Ted McCarty was instrumental
in the creation of some of Gibson's most successful, influential and
recognizable designs like the Les Paul, the ES-175, the Flying V, the
Explorer, and the ES-335 models.
Ted McCarty, whose life's work has inspired hundreds of thousands of
guitarists, musicians and luthiers, passed away on April 1, 2001 at the age
of 91.
Included in this tribute will be a special gathering of guitar luminaries
including Paul Reed Smith, founder of PRS Guitars, and McCarty family
members, who will share their insights into the legacy of Ted McCarty.

Guitar Fascination":
- October 4: Tour@Two with John Page, co-founder of the Fender Guitar Custom Shop. 2 PM. Admission is $5; $3 for seniors and students.
- October 7: Concert with Joe Beck & Ali Ryerson. 1 PM. Tickets are $7; $5 for Museum members.
- October 11: Tour@Two with George Fullerton, co-founder of G&L Guitars, longtime partner and friend of Leo Fender. 2 PM. Admission is $5; $3 for seniors and students.
- October 15: The Museum of Making Music and Taylor Guitars present Mike Keneally in Concert as well as a special exhibit from Taylor Guitar in honor of their 30th anniversary. 6:30 PM. Tickets are $10 and include the cost of the concert, a special tour through the museum as well as a raffle for a chance to win a new Taylor guitar.
- October 18: Tour@Two with musician, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, former guitarist with Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers. 2 PM. Admission is $5; $3 for seniors and students.
- October 25: Tour@Two with Gary Kahler, innovator of guitar tremolo systems. 2 PM. Admission is $5; $3 for seniors and students.
