Yamaha and Broadjam Launch 2004 Music Production Contest

Yamaha Corporation of America, in cooperation with Broadjam.com, a provider of Internet and desktop tools for musicians, record labels and publishers, announced the launch of the 2004 Yamaha International Music Production Contest.
Entrants can log on to www.yamjams.com and enter their original song productions for a shot at more than $50,000 in prizes. Songs must be created using one of three Yamaha product lines--01X (or other mLAN-based product), Motif (ES, Rack or original) or AW Series workstation--and each product category has five musical genres: Rock, Hip Hop/R&B, Film Scoring/Orchestral/World, Jazz/Latin and Dance/Electronica.
Using Broadjam's technology, contestants will be able to stream instantly, listen to other contestants' music, join in peer reviews and participate in online help forums at www.motifator.com, www.01xray.com and www.awinspire.com.
There are three levels of ranking and prizes--Peer Review, Music Genre and Product Category.
In the Peer Review round, entrants must complete the online application, select an appropriate product category and genre, upload their music by creating an MP3 file, and review songs from six other contestants. There is no cost to enter, and up to three songs per Music Genre, per Product Category may be submitted. Peer rankings in each category close on January 1, 2005. The top three peer-selected entrants in each genre (45 people) will be asked to provide some simple documentation on how they used their Yamaha gear to produce their songs.
On January 20, those confirmed entrants will move on to the Music Genre round, where their music will be evaluated by a panel of celebrity judges. Producer Justin Stanley (Nikka Costa, The Vines and the soundtracks for Zoolander, Slackers and About a Boy) will rank the Rock category. Multi-platinum producer and American Idol personality Randy Jackson will evaluate Hip-hop/R&B. Contemporary Jazz project Fourplay (Bob James, Harvey Mason, Nathan East and Larry Carlton) are slated to judge Jazz/Latin. Drum and Bass pioneer DJ Rap will rank Dance/Electronica and composer Don Davis (The Matrix, Jurasic Park III, Star Trek: The Next Generation), Film Scoring/Orchestral/World. The artist judges will award 45 winners (first, second and third in each Genre) with a signed Certificate of Achievement.
Each Music Genre winner will then move on to the Product Category round, where a first-, second- and third-place winner (nine people total) will be selected for each product (01X, Motif and AW). More than $50,000 MSRP in Yamaha music production gear--$10,000 for first, $5,000 for second and $2,000 for third--will be given away to the winners.
