PRESS RELEASE

Steinberg's Cubase VST/32 Version 5.0 Includes UV22 Built-In

July 23, 2000

Steinberg Soft-und Hardware GmbH recently announced Cubase VST 5.0(TM),the newest Cubase VST Series for the MacOS ®. Recording at up to 96 kHz, top-of-the-line VST/32 offers extreme dynamic response and transparent sounds all the way down to mastering, and includes, built-in for the first time, the unique UV22 word-length-reduction technology from digital audio conversion leaders Apogee Electronics of Santa Monica, CA.

Apogee’s exclusive UV22 process reduces the word-length of high-resolution digital signals to 16-bit for Compact Disc, DAT and other mastering formats. Used on an estimated 80+% of hit albums mastered in the USA, UV22 preserves virtually all of the detail of a high resolution digital recording while reducing the word length to 16-bits while keeping the noise floor at the theoretical level.

Said Steve Garth, CEO of Steinberg North America: "Apogee's award-winning UV22 technology has become the industry standard for quality bit-reduction in audio mastering, used on hit CDs worldwide. By making it an integral part of Steinberg's Cubase VST/32 5.0, we provide Cubase users affordable professional recording with the best sound possible throughout the signal path. Cubase VST/32 with UV22 guarantees clear natural sound right down to the final CD master.'
