Marshall Forges a New Direction in Sound with the Acoustic Soloist Line of Amplifiers

The Marshall AS50R and AS100D Acoustic Combo Amplifiers reach a new audience

AS 100D
July 21, 2000

Marshall Amplification, long synonymous with superior power and tone for electric guitar, has created the Acoustic Soloist series — a line of combo amps designed specifically for amplified acoustic guitar.

Marshall’s 50 Watt, 2 X 8" AS50R Acoustic Combo features two independent channels with Master Volume and separate Volume, Bass and Treble controls. Two specially designed 8" speakers and a high efficiency piezo tweeter allow the AS50R to faithfully reproduce every subtle nuance of acoustic instruments, and an internal limiter is provided for maximum level without distortion. A built-in Chorus with Speed and Depth controls is assignable to either or both channels, and a spring Reverb with Level and Balance controls, as well as a parallel FX loop (which can be balanced between the channels) is provided. A pair of RCA Inputs is included for connection of tape or CD players, as is an Input jack for interface with a drum machine or keyboard. A line-out and DI outputs complete the AS50R’s features.

The Marshall 2 X 8" AS100D Acoustic Combo is loaded with two specially-designed Celestion 8" speakers and two high fidelity dome polymer tweeters for true acoustic reproduction. Utilizing 50W x 50W of stereo power, the AS100D has a special built-in limiter to ensure distortion-free performance, even at high volumes. In addition to four independent channels (Acoustic Instrument 1, Acoustic Instrument 2, Microphone and Auxiliary inputs), Channel 1 also features a parametric Mid control for dialing-in a specific frequency. A built-in Stereo Digital Effects section with 16 programs is included, along with a Stereo Parallel Effects Loop, allowing for perfect internal and external effects mixing across the first three channels. Both the internal digital effects and external effects loop can be turned on or off via a supplied footswitch. Balanced Stereo DI XLR outputs and Unbalanced Stereo Line Output jacks are provided.

Marshall’s new range of acoustic amplifiers are highly efficient combos with the portability required by the gigging player. The compact AS50R is ideal for the acoustic musician who wants a system suitable for small gigs as well as at home, and the AS100D provides the acoustic player with the power to perform, while rendering natural tonal reproduction.

In the U.S., Marshall is promoting their range of Acoustic Soloist Amplifiers with a free solid-wood player’s stool. As of May 1st, while supplies last, consumers purchasing an Acoustic Soloist from an authorized Marshall dealer receive an 18-inch high, birch wood stool featuring the official Marshall Acoustic Soloist logo on the seat.
