Sony Unveils First Memory Stick Digital Voice Recorder

ICD-MS1
July 23, 2000

Sony Electronics today introduced the first digital Memory Stick voice recorder for the music industry. The ICD-MS1 is ideal for note taking and as an idea pad for musicians. The solid-state ICD-MS1 is a portable digital voice recorder that records on removable Memory Stick IC-cards, which are about the size of a stick of chewing gum.

An increasingly popular storage medium, Memory Stick devices can store up to 965 individual recordings in 340 File folders. It allows the user to conveniently transfer recordings to a PC with software bundled with the ICD-MS1 unit. The software helps transfer information to and from the MS1 and can play back selected recordings through the system's native format or convert the information into a standard wav file.

"The ICD-MS1 is a very exciting product," said Paul Foschino, marketing manager of the professional audio group at Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. "It's an extremely durable format with good sound quality, plus you don't have to worry about the physical limitations of tape."

The ICD-MS1 offers a host of functions, including adjustable playback speed (slow/normal/fast), a playback/edit function that allows recordings to be corrected while listening, a cue/review function that allows audible fast forward & rewind during playback using the Jog Dial control, an insert function that allows material to be added in the middle of previous work, and an Add Recording feature that automatically starts recording after the last recorded material.
