Yamaha Corporation of America will showcase two of its hippest products at Summer NAMM 2000, the DJXII Portable Keyboard and DJXIIB DJ Box. Sharply focused on the musical styles of today-Dance, Techno, Trance, Rap, Hip-Hop and Rave, these products break new ground with technological innovations, fresh, hot musical content and an interface that will have even non-musicians playing instantly. Known as "The Keys" and "The Box," the DJXII and DJXIIB carry respective MSRPs of $459.95 and $299.95, putting them within reach of the customers that love the music they make, as well as those who make the music they love. Both models will be available in August.

"Yamaha was looking for new, non-traditional business when we introduced the remarkable DJX keyboard last year, and it attracted customers who would have not bought one of our more traditional keyboards," states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards. "Now the DJXII series, with more authentic sounds and grooves, will find even more new users. But the interface, and the way it allows these instruments to function with or without a keyboard, is the big news."

"The Box," the DJXIIB, is a totally new kind of musical instrument, which allows anyone to play in minutes without training or practice. Lighted buttons start the music and change from one groove to the next. Effects may be added, including scratches, human voices and more by spinning a CD-sized platter. The DJXIIB contains plenty of analog knobs that create new sounds, adjust EQ and even remix. Special inputs allow the connection of a CD player to The Box, where it measures the tempo of the tune being played and then matches the tempo of the internal grooves-now you're playing with your favorite band! The DJXIIB is about the size of a record turntable or small DJ mixer and contains a headphone jack, two built-in speakers with bass ports for deep lows and a handy carrying strap. It is battery-powered, and at 15" (W) x 15" (L) x 6" (D) and a mere 5 lbs., extremely portable.

The 61-key DJXII keyboard, "The Keys," a combination keyboard and groove machine in one package, adds innovations like a built-in sampler and performance recorder. It can sample up to 6 ½ seconds and assign the samples to six different buttons for instant recall. The user can even sample his voice through an optional microphone or from an audio source. In addition, the performance recorder can take any performance created from the grooves and content of the keyboard and store it to one of six locations. A built-in speaker system contains bass ports to reproduce a distinctive, hefty sound. The Keys, like The Box, is compact, light and battery-powered for portability.

Both DJXII instruments are MIDI-capable, and can be upgraded by accessing new grooves and content with a multimedia computer and the Internet (www.yamahadjx.com).

"Professional performance, an interface that anyone can play and a price point that even beginners can afford is what the DJXII instruments are all about," Presley adds. "But even more, they are fun and musically rewarding, instantly."
