Yamaha PSR282 and GX76 Launched at Summer NAMM 2000

New Portable Keyboards Talk, Literally, With Vocal Cues

Yamaha Corporation of America continues its leadership position in the portable keyboard market with the introduction of the new GX76 and PSR282 at Summer NAMM 2000. These models are expected to retail for $299.95 and $399.95, respectively, and will ship in the second quarter of 2000.

When musicians say that these models speak to them, they mean it, as many of their functions have vocal cues that announce in English. The built-in Yamaha Education Suite (YES) II functions contain both right-hand and left-hand exercises, a built-in chord directory and interactive functions that grade the playing of internal exercises. Plus, YES II will actually count down the beat, just as a teacher would. Just to make the learning more fun, there are even built-in games. It's the next best thing to having a real teacher.

The PSR282 and GX76 are among the only keyboards in the world at their price point to feature a stereo-sampled piano voice, a technology usually reserved for more expensive professional keyboards. With the Yamaha Portable Grand function, one dedicated button brings up this great-sounding piano, as well as sets up the keyboard to play as a piano in full keyboard mode.

"Customers have always listed the piano as the most important sound they were looking for in a portable keyboard," states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards. "Who is more qualified to produce excellent piano performance in an affordable portable keyboard than the world's most respected piano manufacturer?"

For something new and totally fun, a DJ function has been added, with a turntable-shaped button that calls up the latest grooves and sounds that are representative of today's hottest music. Now even the most jaded customers will find something hip to love about these new Yamaha portable keyboards.

The PSR282 and GX76 are stunning examples of performance and value resulting from cutting-edge technology. Professional features include bass ports for enhanced sound, 61 full-size touch-sensitive keys (76 in the GX76), 32 notes of polyphony, Yamaha's exclusive Wave Memory tone generation technology and an icon-based LCD display. Both models contain MIDI IN/OUT and are general MIDI compatible, critical for computer use. Both also contain bass ports for enhanced sound. With the GX76, the list continues with a pitch bend wheel and Yamaha Audio's YST technology, which produces incredible bass response. Both models are easy to carry and are battery-operated.
