Apogee Releases MasterTools 1.6 Plug-In for Pro Tools

July 23, 2000

Apogee Electronics Corporation, the Santa Monica, CA-based manufacturer of digital audio conversion systems, has released a new version, 1.6, of its MasterTools plug-in for Digidesign’s Pro Tools system.

MasterTools features Apogee’s exclusive UV22 process for reducing the word-length of high-resolution digital signals to 16-bit for Compact Disc, DAT and other mastering formats. Used on an estimated 80+% of hit albums mastered in the USA, UV22 preserves virtually all of the detail of a high resolution digital recording while reducing the word length to 16-bits while keeping the noise floor at the theoretical level.

Besides featuring UV22, MasterTools provides a versatile, 3D multi-function digital meter display, combined with invaluable mastering tools.

Digital “Overs” are indicated and held until manually cleared. The number of full scale samples that constitutes an “Over” is user-definable. Both peak and average audio levels are displayed. The peak hold times and meter scaling are both user-definable. Analog and digital scales with selectable headroom are also available. In addition, “Overs” can be logged against external or Pro Tools’ internal time code to quickly find the offending samples. The “Over Log” can then be saved, cleared, or printed. Alternatively, Apogee’s NOVA™ (Not-Over) feature can be applied. This exclusive process handles any sample that would represent a digital “over”, without affecting the audio quality, and operates in real time.

The metering picture is completed by an accurate phase metering system, and MasterTools provides a comprehensive DC Offset removal system to assure seamless edits without having to cross fade. A simple display shows the amount of DC offset that is being corrected in real time.

MasterTools 1.6 is compatible with the latest versions of Pro Tools including Mix 24 Plus, and will be available from Apogee dealers at a US manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $495.
