PRESS RELEASE

Gibson Announces the Customer's Choice J-45

July 23, 2000

In developing this instrument, the Gibson website ran a survey back in January to determine exactly what features consumers would want in the ultimate Gibson acoustic guitar if they had their choice. Categories of choice were model, back and side wood, fingerboard wood and inlay, finish, pickup or no pickup, tuners, bridge, and pickguard. The Gibson Customer's Choice J-45 is the result of that survey.

The J-45, which first appeared in Gibson catalogs in 1934, has long been a favorite Gibson model, and is affectionately known by performers as "The Workhorse."

This guitar features the J-45 sloped-shoulder body style with mahogany back and sides, a rosewood fingerboard, mother-of-pearl dot inlay, vintage sunburst finish, gold kidney-shaped tuners, teardrop pickguard and pickup with onboard controls, and, interestingly, a Moustache(tm) bridge – a signature of the famous SJ-200 guitar.

Only one of these guitars is currently planned, and it is to be given away with a register- to-win contest on the Gibson website. Its retail value is around $2,000.00.
