August 02, 2000

Instead of just a few models being introduced-as one expects at a summer show- Ibanez pulled out all the stops and debuted a completely new Artwood lineup. Each guitar in the line Ibanez calls "the best value in a pro acoustic" is now either an existing model with upgrades or an entirely new model. The AW100 is one of the upgraded versions of an existing model. Although it still has the Artwood hallmark features of a solid spruce top with scalloped bracing, Engelmann spruce replaces the original Sitka. On the cosmetic side, chrome Grover tuners have been replaced by gold, the neck is now bound, and the standard rosette is now an attractive abalone. An impressive guitar, but just as impressive is the fact that Ibanez has maintained the same price as the original. The AW200NT is one of the entirely new Artwood models. Like the AW100NT, the AW200NT features an abalone rosette, bound neck, gold Grover tuners and an Engelmann spruce top. But instead of mahogany, the AW200NT features the bright sound and striking looks of figured maple (either quilted or flamed). To help introduce the new models, Ibanez has created a new 2000 supplement to complement the existing 2000 Ibanez catalogue.
