Sony is unveiling its highest performance professional MiniDisc recorder in its M1 product line here at the NAMM show. To ensure sonically superior sound, the MDS-JB940 incorporates the latest ATRAC audio compression technology, and Type "R" digital signal processing. The MDS-JB940 offers such advances as scale factor editing that helps equalize tracks from various sources and adjusts the volume of a MiniDisc track after it has been recorded. The new recorder also has a variable coefficient 24-bit digital filter as well as a Sony MegaStorage CD changer control so it can be remotely linked to compatible Sony CD changers for compilation recording and CD to MD archiving. "The MDS-JB940 is a great sounding unit housed in a sturdy, well-built chassis. It will be perfect for musicians and other cost and quality conscious users," remarked Paul Foschino, marketing manager for the professional audio group of Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. "Its sonic performance and rugged construction will make it perfect for a wide variety of applications, such as DJs commercial and college broadcasting, project studio recording, and integrated systems in theaters, theme parks and museums." Another premium operational feature is S-TACT, (Synchronous Time Accuracy Controller) circuitry where the Sony circuit isolates the clock-generator from the D/A Converter minimizing zero-cross distortion. Additional features include:
The MDS-JB940 will be available in July at a suggested list price of $480. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.sony.com/.
