In 1995, Bob Taylor decided to prove a point - that it’s a guitar maker’s ability to design and execute that determines a quality instrument, and not the wood he uses. The result was the Pallet Guitar, built from a crummy oak pallet and a two-by-four (nails and all). It was an amusing and educational project, but no one could’ve expected the level of interest shown by what can only be described as ‘fans’ of the instrument. To this day, the Pallet Guitar draws people to the Taylor NAMM booth every year, and remains a reference point for the company, wherever they go.

Numerous unsuccessful bids for the Pallet Guitar have been made over the years, and now Taylor has decided to offer a Limited Edition Pallet Series. The guitars will be Grand Auditorium 6-strings, with back and sides of 'pallet grade' oak, a top of pine or hemlock, and a Formica, aluminum and mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlay of a factory forklift. The 25 new Pallet Guitars will have one advantage over the original, in that they’ll come with Taylor’s new-tech neck design. Each of the guitars will come with a custom sticker, a one-time transferable warranty, and sequential numbering.
