BOSS has introduced the BR-532 Digital Studio, a 4-track digital recorder that puts an ultra-simple interface derived from the very popular BR-8 into a convenient, battery-driven design for recording on the go. Up to four primary tracks and 32 Virtual Tracks can be recorded and stored to the included 32MB SmartMedia card, while Insert and Loop effects—plus a built-in Rhythm Guide with real drum sounds—make it possible to create complete songs with professional-sounding results.

Like the BR-8, the new BR-532 is easy that to use. Users can record to any of 32 Virtual Tracks and use any four for playback. Tracks can be bounced digitally—even four tracks to a pair of Virtual Tracks—if more recording space is needed. And because it’s digital, the BR-532 is free of the slow tape rewinding found in tape-based multitrack recorders and can offer helpful track editing tools like Copy, Paste, Move and Undo.

An onboard programmable stereo effects processor provides many types of Insert effects including COSM Amp Modeling, compression, EQ and Bass Simulation, plus Loop effects like reverb, chorus and doubling—perfect for guitars, vocals or any instrument connected to the XLR Microphone, Guitar/Bass or stereo Line inputs. And with its optical digital output, users can record to a computer or stand-alone CD recorder for burning CDs.

Other convenient features include a Rhythm Guide, Phrase Trainer and Center Cancel function. The Rhythm Guide provides realistic PCM-based drum sounds and patterns for use as drum backing during recording, while the Phrase Trainer slows down guitar licks without changing pitch. Vocalists will appreciate the Center Cancel function’s ability to remove lead vocals from a mix. And if that isn’t enough, there’s even a built-in microphone, plus and Audio Sub Mix for monitoring the Line input while recording guitar or vocals.
