New 50th Anniversary American Series Precision Bass from Fender July 23, 2001To commemmorate the birth of the electric bass guitar and 50 years of music that would not have happened without its invention by Leo Fender in 1951, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) is proud to introduce the 50th Anniversary American Series Precision Bass. To be made at FMICs state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Corona, California, the 50th Anniversary American Series Precision Bass will be a limited edition that is sure to be an instant collectible.
From Monk Montgomery to James Jamerson, from Paul Simonon to Sting, the Precision Bass has served as the backbone to the worlds greatest recordings and live performances. This limited edition American Series P-Bass pays homage to 50 years of its predecessors and the music that was created with them. Designed to embody the esscence of this historic instrument and its evolution over the past 50 years, the American Series 50th Anniversary P-Bass will be built to the same specifications that have made the American Series P-Bass the best selling electric bass since its introduction last year.
"This is a particularly historic moment, not only for Fender, but for the entire music world," says Ritchie Fliegler, senior vice president of marketing for Fender. "These first electric basses and amps opened up the door to unlimited musical possibilities by injecting the bass guitar into what we now know as the modern ensemble."
"Without the electric bass," adds Fliegler, "there might not have been the Beatles, Motown, reggae or funk. Who knows what we might be listening to now! When you really think about it, the electric bass is truly one of most significant innovations of our time.
The body of the 50th Anniversary American Series Precission Bass will be solid ash, which is finished with a Butterscotch Blonde reminiscent of the original. Similarly, the maple neck and fingerboard will feature a gloss tint to complete the vintage vibe.
This limited edition instrument features one single, split-coil American Series P-Bass pickup, volume and tome controls, and a string-through-body bridge. It comes complete with an engraved neck plate, certificate of authenticity and a tweed case.
