July 24, 2001The January NAMM show saw the debut of the most affordable Ibanez AE Series acoustic-electric ever, the AEG10BK. "With features like a Fishman Sonicore pickup, an Ibanez Shape-Shifter EQ, all at only $419.99, it’s no surprise that the AEG10 is one of the best selling acoustic-electric guitars ever," commented," reads a flier from the Ibanez USA Acoustic Guitar Division.
"For the Summer Nashville Show, we’re adding an AEG10 in Transparent Red Sunburst. In either finish, the AEG10 is a beautiful guitar that delivers up great acoustic tones with a minimum of dial tweaking in even the most challenging live venue."
The AEG10TRS uses a Sonicore Pickup from Fishman, made using a copolymer material in a special braided wire cable. Like Fishman’s Acoustic Matrix, Sonicore’s design eliminates deadspots. However, the two pickups are different in response with the Sonicore providing more low and upper end response and less midrange.
The Ibanez AEQ-SS Shape Shifter EQ is a fresh new EQ design that lets you spend the bare minimum time tweaking controls and the absolute maximum time playing. Specifically designed to work with the Fishman Sonicore pickup, the 3-band AEQ-SS features a tone shaper that’s much like the loudness contour on your stereo with one important difference: your stereo’s loudness gives you just two options: on or off. But the AEQ-SS’s tone shaper is an actual loudness contour control so you can exactly determine the level of the contour and get the right sound.
The Shape Shifter is also very quiet. And it has a huge amount of headroom so you can get more volume before distortion sets in. The Shape Shifter also features a phase reverse switch for eliminating feedback. There’s a separate battery compartment for easy battery changes. And there’s a low battery light that tells you when it’s time to change batteries (which won’t be very often because the AEQ-SS circuitry promotes long battery life.)
