PRESS RELEASE

New CD and MiniDisc Recorders/Players Announced

July 26, 2001

Sony Electronics introduced an array of CD and MiniDisc units at the National Association of Music Merchandisers convention. The CDP-XE370 compact disc player deck, the MiniDisc S-JE470 recorder/player deck, and the MZR-700 silver portable MiniDisc recorder/player deliver high sonic-quality for a wide range of professional applications.

Incorporating the latest H-Pulse converter technology, the CDP-XE370 CD player deck is compatible with CD-R/RW discs. It can play back both commercial CDs and recordable/re-recordable media. The compact unit is equipped with a Jog Dials navigator dial for easy track search and program play editing; 24-step programming; an optical digital out for digital transfer of music to CD-R, MD or DAT; and Peak Search, to help locate the loudest portion of a disc for level setting on recording devices.

Outfitted with a Remote Commander wireless remote control, the CDP-XE370 CD player also offers a 20-song music calendar and variable audio output that allows convenient level matching to other audio gear. Suggested applications include test playback for production/mastering, mobile DJ playback, radio production, music library playback and background music playback.

Featuring ATRAC Type "R" digital signal processing for sound closer to CD quality, sound, the MiniDisc S-JE470 recorder/player operates at 24-bit word length for high precision, and has MD Long Play (MDLP) modes that allow up to four times normal recording capacity using ATRAC 3. Geared for basic recording and playback applications in the live sound, recording, radio, DJ and AV markets, this new MiniDisc S-model includes such options as current pulse D/A converter to minimize zero-cross distortion, an El Core power transformer to vastly reduce radiated hum, a digital sample rate converter, an advanced MiniDisc editing set, and optical digital input plus RCA analog I/O.

The newest generation Sony portable MiniDisc recorder/player, the slim and easy-to-transport MZR-700 incorporates a host of new features and benefits, including MDLP (long play mode) utilizing ATRAC 3 for up to 320 minutes of record/play time; ATRAC v4.5 for improved sonic clarity; built-in sample rate converter; extended playback time (53 hours with a single "AA" alkaline batter:), and full editing features (track: combine, divide, move, erase and name). Complete with G-Protection technology to handle shock and motion with 40 seconds of shock resistant memory, the MZ-R700 is designed for ENG/news and interviews, live music and demo recording.

The CDP-XE370 compact disc player is available now for a suggested list price of $170; the MiniDisc S-JE470 recorder/player is available for $250; and the MZR-700 portable MD recorder/player will tie available in August for a price of $249.95.
